Submitted on 1/30/2018 Review title of MigsThe makers of this game deserve recognition. 4.5 starsThis game is perfect for local multiplayer fanatics. It's a 1-4 player beat'em up like Castle Crashers, but is far from mindless button mashing. Dodging enemy attacks & combo chaining involves a lot of skill. There's unexpected depth in character progression - switching up gear, leveling skills, & enhancing masteries.
Some are passive effects but many are change-ups to each character's playstyle.Visually, nothing ground-breaking about its pixel art characters & rendered backdrops but it's smooth & it carries its own charm. The music has its own soul & meshes everything together. Very catchy. The storytelling feels cartoony but the overall plot under that layer was surprisingly good writing.
Not for those who dislike reading through lines of dialogue. The puzzles depends on people's taste. Amazing for its think-outside-the-box style. Probably the most out-of-the-ordinary set of riddles I ever had to solve in a videogame.Thank you Cellar Door games for an amazing experience!!! Submitted on 4/15/2018 Review title of RonaldGreat Game for only $20Playing this game coop is fun because it requires a good bit of cooperation to properly combo and take down foes. You don't have to play in coop but it may be more enjoyable in coop. There's four characters to choose from and each character has skills that can be upgraded and equipment to augment those skills.
Each level has 'warning' zones at the end where you have to defeat a bunch of enemies. Things can get challenging sometimes. Vampire bat bite. There's an easier mode called 'Story Mode' within the game tweaks option should you find this game too hard. The story itself is great but you can't get the final ending until you solve all of the puzzles. Depending on what type of person you are this may or may not be too bad. The puzzles aren't skill intensive, it's usually solving a riddle or finding secret areas.
Some of the puzzle answers are found in pretty strange areas. Submitted on 1/24/2018 Review title of BuckieJrGame is a blast and developers are on top of it.Picked this up for the couch coop aspect of what was shown in the trailer and have to say that this has been some of the most fun my wife and i have had playing games together.
Everything from the soundtrack to the art design is phenomenal. The game is pretty straightforward. Start at 1-1 beat up badies, collect loot, boss(if level has one) move to 1-2 and so on. You can detour and complete puzzles as well as side stages for rewards. You have a base camp where you can swap party members, level up, buy gear and so on. Single player wise the game is alot harder as you can tell by some of the fights it was designed with multiple people playing in mind but its still a blast to play.and the developers are quick to reply to questions as well as support with the game, like a matter of minutes from sending an email to recieving a response.Phenomenal game by a phenomenal crew! Submitted on 2/12/2018 Review title of RickyVery poor PC play anywhere supportThe Xbox version of this game is great and lots of fun.
However, trying to play it on PC is painful. All audio in the game is broken. There is no support forum for the Microsoft Store version of the PC game. Oh, and the fun new content that's been available in the Steam version will, at this rate, never come to this version.
So, in conclusion, buy this if you are going to play on Xbox, otherwise buy it on Steam for PC. Submitted on 3/5/2020 Review title of KattExcellent local/online cooperative play! Great humorPlayed on Xbox. This game is an AWESOME co-op experience, with game mechanics and gameplay designed for true co-op (meaning you really do have to work together to beat the levels, yet the various character classes allow for experienced and less-experienced gamers alike to equally enjoy!) We appreciated that resource (gold, health).accumulation. is shared, but spending is individual, so you are never bickering with each other for spoils, but you still have full, independent control on how you develop your own character.
We also loved that you keep your gained experience points even when you fail a level, thus helping to prevent 'getting stuck' at any particular level - keep trying and eventually you'll gain enough power to win. The tuning is perfect too, not too easy nor too frustrating. This has easily become one of my favorite local co-op/couch co-op games. The in-game humor is also entertaining!
